Smoke House Tours

 

Come and visit!

For a taste of authenticity, come and savour the sights, sounds and aromas of the only smoke house in Ireland where salmon are hung for smoking. We are now offering daily public tours, which you can book in advance online, and private tours by appointment.

The experience starts the moment you arrive in the yard, where, more often than not, you’ll be greeted by the earthy sweet aroma of beech wood smoke – ours is a working smoke house, running for over 40 years, supplying markets in Cork, restaurants throughout Europe, corporate and private customers around the world

During the tours, you’ll gain insights to the time-honoured process that produces genuine, handmade, smoked fish, and understand what makes it so different to all other smoked seafood that you’ve ever tasted. You will of course have the opportunity to taste and savour as we go and when we’ve finished the tour you can linger to enjoy our smoked food in the Tasting Room and courtyard, or we can pack a picnic for you to enjoy somewhere else, like the neighbouring arboretum at Fota.

   

 

Who you might meet

 Winners of the prestigious Walter Scheel Medaille, and lauded by the international food press over 40 years in business, Frank, and his wife Caroline now run the smoke house and our market outlets. We have two experienced smokers, Dan and Tom, chefs Alessandra and Pablo, office manager and head of sales, Miriam, Erasmus graduate Manon, and our market team Vanessa, Eduarda, Tomo and Beatrice. We all look forward to meeting you.

Tours are conducted in English, but some individuals speak French, Italian, Polish and Portuguese as well.

Location

Situated on the shores of Cork harbour, the smoke house is only 10 minutes from Cobh or 30 minutes from Cork City and the airport.

 

 Tasting Room Shop & Hatch Service

Monday to Saturday

10am -5 pm.

 As ours is a working smoke house, we are generally unable to offer impromptu or unscheduled tours,

However, you are welcome to pop in to the smoke house to purchase fish any time that we are open. If we are conducting a Private Tour or Tasting Room event, we will be able to provide hatch service.

 We also have a Click & Collect service, which is preferable if there is a particular product you wish to purchase, and want to ensure it is in stock.

 Please note that this is not a restaurant or café. However, we can provide picnic platter to go if you would like something to eat, but haven’t booked a tour, or don’t have time for one.

 The platters are also available to book online, which is preferable, particularly if you are a large group. These platters are generally made for two people sharing.

 If it’s a lovely day, and you would like to consume these products in our new courtyard, you are most welcome to stay. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee indoor shelter if the weather misbehaves, even with a booking for a platter, as places may be reserved for tour bookings. Naturally, if spaces are available, you will be welcome to avail of them.
