Christmas Shop & New Year Celebrations
During our first Christmas season, the Tasting Room Christmas Smoked Salmon Shop will be open Monday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. From time to time we will be offering impromptu canapés to Christmas shoppers, in a warm room lit by a real Christmas Tree. There is handy parking outside.
After traditional Christmas holidays, we will be open again for New Year’s celebrations, offering tastings depending on the mood of our kitchen and availability of ingredients in local stores.
We offer a Click & Collect service at the Tasting Room which generally requires 2 days’ notice. To avoid any disappointment, we recommend you to pre-order online.
Tours will be available from March 2024. However, in the meantime, from mid-January 2024, you can visit the smoke house and enjoy a platter of smoked fish in our Tasting Room.
Private Tours with Relaxed lunch
From March 2024 we will be offering bespoke tours with our smokers including Frank himself and/or Caroline, a former food writer and restaurant critic, who has run the smokehouse for 20 years. You will gain a unique insight to smoking and life at the smoke house in a behind-the-scenes tour, after which you be treated to a one of a kind lunch or mealtime of your choice (We also offer brunch and afternoon tea.) You will be indulged the finest food while immersed in the day to day of a working smokehouse.
We are happy to spend as much time with you as you wish, or we can give you complete privacy. You may also like to pre-order items to be shipped for your arrival home, choosing your own fish from the smoker. Additional entertainment such as trimming and slicing your own fish, making your own brown soda bread with our chef, or visiting Cork’s vast natural harbour by boat, can also be arranged.
Open Day Tours
Our open day tours are open to everyone who has booked online (booking available from January 2024), on the first and last Friday of every month , and during special events such as Cork Harbour Festival or Fota House & Garden Rare Breed Plant Sales. Join fellow travellers and locals who wish to know more about how we smoke and eat some particularly delicious and authentic smoked Irish food.
The tours are open to a maximum of 14 people, minimum of two. During this time, you will be given a short tour & talk by one of our experienced staff. It will take approximately 20 minutes. Afterwards you can either enjoy a platter of food between two, at the smoke house – in the courtyard on fine days or in our Tasting Room, or you can request to have it packed to take away. (Please let us know before the tour starts.)
As we are a working smokehouse, we can’t always offer tours and some groups may prefer just to come for lunch between, say, garden visits and a trip to Spike Island … With notice, we can provide a delicious informal local menu in a smoke house setting for medium sized groups (15-25). These must be pre-booked.
From time to time we can accommodate large team meetings, and special interest/educational group tours with enough notice. Groups may need to be split to accommodate everyone comfortably on the tour and in our Tasting Room & Garden. These can only really be held outside the normal shop hours (10 am to 5pm), but in exceptional circumstances we may be able to accommodate you.
Private Dinner Party or Sunday Lunch at the Smoke House
We can offer a very unique, private and personal experience of dinner parties for up to 14 people. Food will be served from bespoke smokes for your group, such as fresh whole mackerel straight from the hot smoker, smoked lobster etc, with a bespoke tasting menu. Seafood lovers are at a particular advantage but we can also provide vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Unlike restaurants, we do not have multiple sittings and our space is completely private. We can offer a wine, whiskey or local beer tasting option (additional charge) or you can bring your own wine or champagne. (Corkage fee applies.)
Bookings & Cancellation Policy
Please contact Caroline or Miriam to make an enquiry or booking. We would request full payment at time of booking. A full refund less an administration charge of 10% is made if the booking is cancelled up to 10 working days before date of event. Cancellations made within 10 days of event will be refunded 50% of invoice. Cancellations made within 3 working days of date of event will not be refunded.
